Frequently Asked Questions
Are these CEM or GL style tests?

From September 2022 Warwickshire and Birmingham Grammar Schools switched from using the CEM test to the GL format. All our 2022 tests and beyond have therefore been in the GL format.

How do I book a test?

You can book your child in using our online booking form.

Please note that all bookings must be made in advance, and we cannot accept your child into any of our tests with less than 24 hours notice.
How long is the test?

Taster Test (October) & Progress Check Exam (January)
The test is designed to last for 50 minutes. To minimise disruption we will ask you to leave a few minutes before the start and arrive a few minutes after the end. Due to our safeguarding procedures, all children must be accompanied by an adult upon arriving and leaving the test centre.

Full 11+ Practice Tests (Summer)
The test comprises two 50 minute papers with a 10 minute break in the middle, so it takes roughly two hours in total. To minimise disruption we will ask you to leave a few minutes before the start and arrive a few minutes after the end. Due to our safeguarding procedures, all children must be accompanied by an adult upon arriving and leaving the test centre.

Will I receive any information prior to the test date?

You will be sent an email around two weeks in advance of your test date which will provide key information such as recommended arrival/collection times, parking/venue guidance, what to bring to the test and any food restrictions (due to allergies). This email will also include an emergency contact form which must be completed and brought to the test. We will be unable to allow your child entry into the test unless we have the completed form.
If you have any questions before receiving your email, please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to answer as quickly as we can.

Can I cancel or rearrange a test date?

Taster Test (October)
We usually have a waiting list for these tests, so if you need to cancel your booking we ask that you do so as early as possible to allow your child's place to be used. You can inform us of your cancellation via phone, text/WhatsApp or email.

Progress Check Exam (January) & Full 11+ Practice Tests (Summer)
Should you need to cancel your booking, you can do so up to two weeks in advance with a full refund. Any cancellations made between two weeks and 48 hours prior to the test will incur a charge of £25. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the start of the test will not be eligible for any refund.

You can rearrange your test date up to 24 hours prior to your test without incurring any charge, but please note we cannot guarantee availability on other test dates.

If you do not attend the test for any reason without giving us prior notice as detailed above, you will not be eligible for any refund.

Does my child need to bring anything with them?

We will provide all necessary writing materials, so your child doesn't need to bring their own. Children should also bring a water bottle containing a suitable drink for if and when they should need it.

Full 11+ Practice Tests (Summer)
Your child can bring their own snack for the 10 minute break - please do not bring anything containing nuts, due to allergy concerns. There may be children attending the test with other serious allergies, so please check your information email before the test to see if other food restrictions are in place.

What if my child has a severe allergy or medical condition?

It's important to let us know on your booking form so all suitable precautions can be taken as early as possible.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes, we will always ensure that all supervising adults have DBS checks.

What is your first aid provision?

There will always be a qualified first aider present at each test. If your child has any allergies or medical conditions that we need to know about, please let us know on the Emergency Contact Form that will be emailed to you two weeks before the test.

What if there's an emergency?

All our venues have been inspected and risk assessed. Appropriate fire and emergency procedures will be put in place before the beginning of each test. If your child has a minor medical problem, it will be dealt with by our first aiders and we will inform you of the incident when your child is collected. If there is an emergency, we will contact you immediately as well as any necessary emergency services.
